Mariner of the Seas, delivered in 2003, is the fifth and final Voyager-class ship. She is about 139,863 GT and 1,020 feet long, with capacity around 3,344 guests double occupancy (up to 4,000 maximum). Mariner underwent a significant $120 million amplification in 2018 – a pilot project for Royal Caribbean’s fleet modernization – which injected many new features aimed at younger travelers. The ship received the Sky Pad (the bright yellow trampoline/VR dome on her aft deck), two Perfect Storm water slides, a refreshed pool deck and play areas, and new eateries like Playmakers Sports Bar and Jamie’s Italian. Pre-amplification, Mariner already offered Voyager-class staples: Royal Promenade, ice rink, rock wall, etc. Post-refurb, Mariner of the Seas became a hit for short 3- and 4-night Bahamas cruises from Florida, essentially offering a “micro mega-ship” experience. She features a tiki-themed bar (The Bamboo Room), an escape room, and laser tag, all added in 2018. Mariner’s mix of classic elements and trendy new fun makes her extremely popular for quick getaways.
Unique features:
Sky Pad and more: Mariner was the first ship amplified under the Royal Amplified program (mid-2018), debuting the Sky Pad VR trampoline experience ahead of other ships. This set her apart as a tech-forward ship for short cruises. Additionally, Mariner’s Bamboo Room lounge (a retro-chic tiki bar) is unique to her and Navigator, adding a distinctive tropical flair to her Promenade.
Perfect for short trips: Mariner became known as “the fun ship” for short itineraries – she packs an outsized number of activities for a 4-night cruise. From glow-in-the-dark laser tag in Studio B to an escape room challenge (Puzzle Break: The Observatorium) to her lively pool deck parties, Mariner offers a uniquely high-energy atmosphere that distinguishes her from her Voyager-class sisters that still have a more traditional setup.
Last major drydock/update: May 2018 – Underwent a major 4-week amplification in 2018. This refurbishment added the Sky Pad bungee trampoline dome, Perfect Storm water slides (Cyclone and Typhoon), a refreshed top deck with hammocks and the Lime & Coconut bar, new specialty dining (Jamie’s Italian, Izumi, Playmakers), and updated lounges (the Bamboo Room). Staterooms received aesthetic upgrades and new tech. The 2018 amp-up is Mariner’s most recent major update; since then, only routine maintenance has been conducted.
