Navigator of the Seas, which debuted in 2002, is the fourth Voyager-class ship. At 139,999 GT and 1,020 feet in length, she originally carried about 3,376 guests double occupancy and up to 4,000 total. Navigator underwent one of the most dramatic refurbishments of the fleet in 2019, transforming her with new attractions. This ship now boasts a standout pair of water slides: The Blaster, the longest aqua coaster at sea (a long tube slide where riders shoot through uphill sections on rafts), and Riptide, a headfirst mat racing slide that curves out over the ocean. The 2019 amplification also gave Navigator a Caribbean resort-style pool deck with The Lime & Coconut, a revamped indoor promenade with the first standalone blow-dry bar at sea (“To Dry For”), new dining (Jamie’s Italian, Hooked Seafood), and activities like laser tag. Pre-refurb, Navigator was known for features like the FlowRider and the Royal Promenade – she received a FlowRider in an earlier refit (2007). Now homeported often in Los Angeles (and previously Miami), Navigator is tailored for short fun-packed itineraries, delivering big thrills in a mid-size package.
Unique features:
Longest slide at sea: Navigator’s Blaster water coaster stretches over 800 feet, making it the longest slide on any cruise ship when introduced. It even extends over the side of the ship on cantilevered sections. Paired with the translucent Riptide mat slide (which sends riders belly-down through a loop that protrudes off the ship), these slides are a signature of Navigator’s daring makeover.
Short-cruise trendsetter: Navigator’s 2019 amplification essentially turned her into a prototype for “amped-up” short cruising. She gained a lively, tropical-themed pool deck with cabanas and a vibrant nightlife scene, including the first Blow Dry Bar at sea for quick makeovers and a polished bar and dining lineup. These unique touches made Navigator of the Seas a trendsetter for weekend cruises, packing in amenities rivaling much larger ships.
Last major drydock/update: February 2019 – Received a $115 million Royal Amplification refit. This massive overhaul added The Blaster aqua coaster and Riptide mat slide (unique to Navigator), a reimagined pool deck with the Lime & Coconut bar and Splash Pad for kids, new restaurants (Hooked Seafood, Jamie’s Italian) and lounges, plus the first-at-sea blow-dry bar. The ship’s cabins were updated and the Royal Promenade got new venues (like Polynesian-themed Bamboo Room lounge). This 2019 refurbishment is Navigator’s latest major update, after which she emerged as essentially a new ship in terms of guest experience.
