Voyager of the Seas, launched in 1999, is the namesake of the Voyager class and a landmark ship in cruise history. At around 137,276 GT and 1,020 feet long, she was the largest cruise ship in the world at the time of debut and introduced features never seen before. Voyager can carry about 3,114 guests double occupancy (up to roughly 3,840–3,916 passengers). This ship pioneered the Royal Promenade – a horizontal four-deck-high indoor street with shops, bars, and even parades, fundamentally changing ship design. She also was the first cruise ship with an ice-skating rink (Studio B) and the first with a rock-climbing wall – attractions now standard on Royal Caribbean. Other amenities include a mini-golf course, full-size basketball court, and multiple pools and hot tubs. In 2019, Voyager received an amplification refurb in Asia that added The Perfect Storm duo of water slides and refreshed venues. Voyager of the Seas now sails in Asia-Pacific, offering a classic mega-ship experience with all the original innovations that made her famous plus new upgrades for modern cruisers.
Unique features:
Historic firsts: Voyager of the Seas was the first ship to have an ice rink and Royal Promenade, making waves in the industry. The idea of a bustling indoor promenade with a café, pub, and shops was game-changing. The ship’s Ice Theater enabled ice-skating shows at sea – a novelty that Voyager introduced and still entertains guests with today.
Refurbished with water slides: In a 2019 revitalization, Voyager was updated with Perfect Storm water slides (Typhoon and Cyclone), a reinvigorated vitality spa and gym, and new dining like Izumi Japanese cuisine. This blend of 21st-century thrills with her original groundbreaking features gives Voyager a unique charm: a mix of the nostalgic and the new.
Last major drydock/update: September 2019 – Underwent a $97 million refurbishment in Singapore. Voyager’s amplification added two water slides, a FlowRider surf simulator (which had been added in an earlier refit and retained), an updated Adventure Ocean youth area, and new venues such as Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade and Battle for Planet Z laser tag. Cabins and the decor were refreshed as well. This 2019 drydock is the most recent major update for Voyager of the Seas.
