Adventure of the Seas, in service since 2001, is the third ship of the Voyager class. She is about 137,276 GT and 1,020 feet long, with a normal capacity around 3,114 passengers (double occupancy) and up to 3,807 at full capacity. Adventure carries the Voyager-class torch with the Royal Promenade, ice rink, and all the familiar amenities. In 2016, Adventure of the Seas received a notable refurbishment that added the Perfect Storm duo of water slides and the FlowRider surf simulator (which her class originally lacked). She also got new venues like Izumi and modernized staterooms. Adventure often sails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, offering Southern Caribbean itineraries, and has also done stints in Europe and Canada/New England. Onboard, guests enjoy production shows, ice-skating extravaganzas, a three-deck-high main dining room, and vibrant nightlife along the Promenade. Adventure of the Seas is appreciated for providing the “big ship” experience with an intimate, old-school Royal Caribbean feel.
Unique features:
Refit rejuvenation: Adventure was one of five ships to get popular Royal Caribbean features added in a 2016 refit. This included installing the FlowRider on her aft deck and adding water slides, which significantly boosted her appeal for thrill-seekers. These additions made Adventure stand out among older Voyager-class ships that hadn’t yet been upgraded.
Consistent charm: Having the full Voyager-class layout, Adventure has long been known for her handsome inline skating track (a feature on Deck 12 that was unique to this class at launch), the Aquarium Bar with large fish tanks, and a spectacular blue-tiled Grand Suite balcony area overlooking the Promenade. Even as newer ships arrived, Adventure’s combination of recent waterpark features and her classic venues give her a balanced personality – part modern, part nostalgic.
Last major drydock/update: November 2016 – Underwent a refurbishment (Royal Advantage program) in late 2016. In this drydock, dual water slides and a FlowRider surf simulator were added, the pool area was enhanced, and new amenities like the Splashaway Bay kids water park and Izumi Japanese restaurant were introduced. Staterooms were refreshed and an outdoor movie screen was added. (A planned 2021 Amplification was later canceled, and a 2024 drydock was a routine maintenance with no major additions.) The 2016 upgrade remains Adventure’s last significant update.
