Serenade of the Seas, in service since 2003, is the third Radiance-class ship. At 90,090 GT and 965 feet long, she carries around 2,146 guests double occupancy (up to about 2,476 total). Serenade is known for her elegant interiors and panoramic vistas – with the Radiance-class trademark of floor-to-ceiling glass nearly everywhere, including in the Viking Crown Lounge and even the elevators. In late 2012, Serenade received a substantial $29 million drydock refurbishment, adding new dining venues (like Giovanni’s Table, Izumi, and the Chef’s Table) and entertainment options. She also got a poolside movie screen and updated nursery in that refit. Serenade of the Seas often operates in Alaska in summer and the Caribbean or Asia in other seasons. Her passengers enjoy a relaxed setting with plenty of opportunities to connect with the ocean view – whether in the Solarium pool under glass or in the Safari Club lounge. With her size, Serenade can transit the Panama Canal and visit smaller ports, making her itineraries diverse.
Unique features:
360° vistas: Serenade offers some of the most extensive sea views of any cruise ship for her size. Her interior spaces like the Horizon Dining Room and the Safari Club have wraparound window walls. The ship’s design prioritizes natural light; even the elevators in the Centrum face the outside. This makes Serenade ideal for scenic cruising (like threading between Alaskan fjords or Caribbean islands).
Revitalized Centrum: After her 2012 revitalization, Serenade’s Centrum features dazzling aerial acrobatic shows similar to her sister Brilliance. The ship’s Centrum Bar area transforms at night with lights and music as performers twirl above – a unique entertainment highlight. Serenade also added the Crown & Castle English pub on the Promenade Deck during refit, giving guests a cozy spot with live music, which was a new addition for a Radiance-class ship.
Last major drydock/update: November–December 2012 – Underwent a three-week, $29 million revitalization in Cadiz, Spain. This refurbishment introduced new specialty restaurants (Giovanni’s, Izumi, Park Café), the Royal Babies & Tots Nursery, an outdoor movie screen on deck, and the Centrum aerial entertainment productions. Cabins got flat-screen TVs and decor refreshes. Since 2012, Serenade has not had another major refurb (only routine maintenance drydocks, e.g. in 2017), so the 2012 upgrades remain the most recent comprehensive update to her features.
