Brilliance of the Seas, which entered service in 2002, is the second Radiance-class ship. She is 90,090 GT and 962 feet long, carrying about 2,112 guests double occupancy (up to 2,543 passengers). True to her class, Brilliance is filled with expansive windows and skylights – offering fantastic views and a connection to the sea. She has a solarium with a retractable roof, a rock climbing wall, mini-golf, and a waterslide (added later). In 2013, Brilliance had a significant refurbishment that updated her dining and entertainment: this included adding the Centrum aerial entertainment – high-flying acrobatic shows in the ship’s central atrium – plus new venues like the English pub and Park Café quick-serve eatery. Brilliance of the Seas often sails itineraries in Europe (Baltic, Mediterranean) and North America (Canada/New England, Caribbean), capitalizing on her ability to navigate both wide oceans and narrower ports. Her relatively smaller size and elegant ambiance make Brilliance a favorite for cruisers who prefer a combination of activities and relaxation with beautiful ocean vistas at every turn.
Unique features:
Centrum aerial shows: During her 2013 revamp, Brilliance’s multi-deck atrium (Centrum) was outfitted with rigging for aerial acrobatics performances, turning an already lovely space into a 360-degree entertainment venue at night. Passengers can watch performers descend and dance in mid-air above the Centrum bar – a dramatic entertainment form that is a Radiance-class specialty.
Refined ambiance: Brilliance is lauded for her more intimate, classy atmosphere. She features a classic nautical Schooner Bar, the Colony Club lounge with self-leveling pool tables, and a traditional two-tier dining room with ocean views. Her relatively smaller passenger count and extensive glass architecture give Brilliance an open, less crowded feel, setting her apart from the mega-ships.
Last major drydock/update: April–May 2013 – Brilliance underwent a $30 million refurbishment in spring 2013. Upgrades included new specialty restaurants (Giovanni’s Table, Izumi, and the vintage-style R Bar), technological upgrades like an outdoor movie screen, and the introduction of the Centrum aerial show capabilities. Staterooms were refreshed with modern touches as well. Other than routine maintenance, Brilliance has not had a major refit since 2013, which was the last project significantly updating her amenities.
