Vision of the Seas, launched in 1998, is one of the namesakes of the Vision class (which consists of several smaller, older ships known for their classic style). She is 78,340 GT and approximately 915 feet long, carrying about 2,050 guests double occupancy (up to 2,514 total). Vision is a more intimate ship, emphasizing traditional cruising elegance. She has a seven-deck high atrium (the Centrum) with ocean-facing glass elevators, a main pool plus an adults-only Solarium pool with a retractable canopy, a rock climbing wall (added later), and the signature Viking Crown Lounge atop the ship. Vision received a refurb in late 2013 that added features like an outdoor movie screen, specialty dining (Izumi, Park Café), and updated staterooms. Despite being smaller, Vision still offers a range of entertainment (production shows, live music) and activities (a small Spa & Fitness Center, mini-golf). She often sails exotic itineraries – for instance, in Europe, South America, or repositioning cruises – thanks to her size which allows access to varied ports. Vision of the Seas evokes a more classic cruise atmosphere with modern touches, ideal for travelers who enjoy a cozy ship that still provides plenty to do.
Unique features:
Spacious Solarium: Vision’s Solarium is a tranquil, airy retreat styled with tropical decor, featuring a retractable glass roof. This space stands out on Vision as especially lovely – by day a quiet pool with stone elephants fountains, by night often transformed into a dining venue or late-night spot. It exemplifies the ship’s classic charm.
Aerial Centrum shows: Like her sisters, Vision’s multi-deck Centrum was fitted to host acrobatic entertainment after refurbishment. Passengers can look up into the atrium and catch performers doing aerial silk routines or trapeze acts above the lobby – a surprising and enchanting use of a small ship’s central space. Vision’s Centrum performances are memorable, especially given the vessel’s size.
Last major drydock/update: October 2013 – Vision underwent a revitalization in 2013. This drydock added new dining (R Bar, Park Café, Giovanni’s Table, Izumi) and enhanced technology (giant outdoor movie screen and digital signage). Notably, the ship’s Centrum was equipped for aerial shows during this refit. Staterooms were refreshed and flat-screen TVs installed. Since 2013, Vision has only seen routine maintenance drydocks (most recently in 2018 and 2023 for upkeep) with no further major feature changes.
